As professional communicators, we are used to seeing our by-line in print. But what about weighing in on the risky and often rewarding business of book writing? The publishing avenues are getting wider and this workshop will explore your options in a Q&A style panel.
On hand will be Nicolette Novak of The Good Earth Food and Wine Co. to share her publishing experience. Nicolette is a lifelong native of Beamsville, Ontario, where she opened the Good Earth Food and Wine Co. in 1998 on her family’s tender fruit farm, 55 acres of orchards, vineyards and gardens. From cooking classes, culinary events and catered affairs, to the winery and seasonal lunches, the Good Earth’s focus is fresh, local and inspired. In 2010, the Good Earth self-published its first cookbook, The Good Book, seasonal recipes from Chefs Patrick Engel, Isa DiIorio and Mike McColl. (www.goodearthfoodandwine.com)
AJ McDonald, a Public Relations Representative with publisher Lulu in Raleigh, N.C.. Since March of 2009, AJ helps raise awareness of Lulu’s brand, products and culture both internally and externally. When he’s not doing that, he’s usually off on some wild adventure. Among his many, AJ has hiked the glaciers of Iceland and worked on a chocolate farm in the jungles of Costa Rica.
Gavin Jocius, also with Lulu is a Marketing Analyst, responsible for promoting the company’s numerous products and services. A published author himself, Gavin’s recent focus has been on helping authors publish, sell and distribute their eBooks online. Throughout the years, Gavin has managed electronic marketing campaigns for Condé Nast Publications, Ziff Davis Media, Duke University and Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show. Gavin is a native of Guelph, Ontario and enjoys spending time in Temagami, Ontario whenever possible. (www.lulu.com)
