| We asked Lauren to reflect on her path into agricultural communications, the topics that inspire her work, and what keeps her passionate about telling the stories behind food and farming. What drew you to farm writing and communications? I grew up on a farm and have been involved in agriculture my entire life. While I wouldn’t describe myself as a farm writer, I work in agricultural communications and really enjoy the storytelling side of my role, especially through social media. Being able to combine communications work with my passion for photography has been a great fit and allows me to share agriculture in a visual and engaging way. What topics or issues do you most enjoy covering? I enjoy creating content that connects both farmers and consumers. It’s especially rewarding to take what I’ve learned in this role and translate it into posts that spark curiosity and engagement online. I particularly enjoy “Did you know?” style content, where we can highlight interesting facts about agriculture and encourage people to think more deeply about how their food is produced. What’s one story or project that stands out in your career so far? One project I’m most proud of is the FarmFood360 initiative. Over the past four years, I’ve had the opportunity to grow within the project—from attending shoots as an observer and capturing behind-the-scenes photos to now leading shoots and managing many of the project’s coordination responsibilities. It has been a meaningful progression and a project that continues to challenge and develop my skills. Why does farm writing matter to you today? Agriculture has changed significantly in recent years, with innovation and technology transforming how farms operate. I think it’s important to help shift outdated consumer perceptions of farming and show a more accurate, modern picture of the industry. Today’s agriculture is diverse and dynamic, and communications play a key role in bridging the gap between farmers and consumers and building trust in how food is produced.
